Ricky Pearsall

23-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Pearsall seems to have the least fantasy hype among the wide receivers drafted in Round 1 or 2 this spring. That's probably fair if San Francisco keeps both Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, but fantasy managers would be wise to keep Pearsall in mind in case there's a trade or a major injury. While the former ASU and Florida wideout never had more than 965 receiving yards or five TDs in a season, he did lead his team in receiving each of his final three years. He also took 21 carries for 253 yards and five TDs during his career, which might help explain why the Niners drafted him at the same time trade rumors were swirling around Samuel. Pearsall is a totally different type of player at 6-1, 189, though also an excellent athlete who tore up a slew of drills at the 2024 Combine (4.41 40, 4.05 short shuttle, 6.64 cone drill, 42-inch vertical, 129-inch broad jump. On the other hand, he'll turn 24 in September and was 'good' more so than 'dominant' in college, suggesting he's a long shot to become a WR1 in the NFL. For now, Pearsall might not even be the third receiver in San Francisco, where Samuel, Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings all remain under contract. Read Past Outlooks
Immediate impact may be limited
WRSan Francisco 49ers
April 30, 2024
Pearsall may not see the field often as a rookie after being drafted by the 49ers, who have three starting wideouts returning for 2024, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
San Francisco's selection of Pearsall at the tail end of the first round of the 2024 Draft came as a bit of a surprise, both in terms of draft slot and roster needs, as Pearsall was mostly projected as a Day 2 pick rather than Day 1. Perhaps the front office drafted the Florida product with an eye on next offseason, at which point Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings are expected to hit free agency and Deebo Samuel will be entering the final year of his contract. Pearsall is an explosive talent with a good chance to put up fantasy-worthy numbers at some point during his career; it just may not happen right off the bat in a loaded 49ers offense.

Gets Aiyuk's approval
WRSan Francisco 49ers
May 1, 2024
Adam Schefter of ESPN relays that Brandon Aiyuk had a positive reaction to the 49ers' decision to select Pearsall with the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. "Fire pick, can't lie," Aiyuk reportedly texted general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan following Pearsall's selection.
ANALYSIS
Rather than being threatened by the addition of another wide receiver, Aiyuk complimented the move. Aiyuk and Pearsall played together at Arizona State in 2019, and Pearsall went on to spend two additional years at Arizona State and another two with Florida before ultimately becoming a first-round selection, four years after the 49ers drafted Aiyuk 25th overall in 2020. With both Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel expected to remain in San Francisco for 2024, Pearsall will likely need to beat out Jauan Jennings to earn consistent playing time as a rookie.
