Jermaine Burton

22-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The Bengals used a third-round pick in the draft to select Burton. Talent is not a question for a player who showed excellent ability in his time at both Georgia and Alabama. The rookie ran an impressive 4.45-second 40-yard dash, which gives Cincinnati a potential downfield threat. However, regular playing time may be difficult to come by since the team has Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. If the Bengals are able to move Burton into a slot role, that could provide the rookie’s best opportunity for playing time and production. Should Burton carve out a slot role, he should see light coverage while defenses worry about the other stars on the perimeter. If the slot doesn’t work, Burton will likely struggle to see regular targets. Read Past Outlooks
Cincinnati snatches in third round
WRCincinnati Bengals
April 26, 2024
The Bengals selected Burton in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 80th overall.
ANALYSIS
Burton (6-foot, 196 pounds) is a former blue-chip recruit who transferred from Georgia to Alabama, displaying standout talent at both schools but also picking up his share of critics along the way. He developed a reputation for dubious judgement on the field and in the locker room both, and not as many former coaches went to bat for him as they normally would with a player of his abilities. With that said, Burton's fit at the pro level doesn't require much speculation. If he has his head in the game he has the talent to emerge as at least an average starter at some point, and for the Bengals he should be an immediate boost to the deep passing game. With 4.45-second 40-yard dash and impressive hands/tracking ability, Burton could hurt defenses that leave him in single coverage against slower corners.

Off-field issues not a concern
WRCincinnati Bengals
April 26, 2024
The Bengals, who selected Burton with the 80th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Friday, aren't concerned with the Alabama receiver's past off-field issues, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Burton was seen on video striking a female fan in 2022 when fans stormed the field following the Crimson Tide's loss to Tennessee that season. Although he was never officially reprimanded, the incident was naturally a concern for some teams, but Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said the team felt "really good about the pick" and added that Cincinnati had done thorough due diligence on all its picks thus far.
