2023 Fantasy Outlook
Brown should be taken more seriously than the typical fifth-round pick after demonstrating an adept skill set as both a runner and receiver at Illinois, along with strong athletic testing at the combine. Brown (5-10, 209) isn't built for a workhorse role in the NFL, but he has the long speed (4.43 40) and short-area burst (127-inch broad jump) to pose an explosive threat as a runner and receiver. The last two years he rushed for 2,648 yards (5.3 YPC) and 15 touchdowns and caught 41 of 49 targets for 382 yards and three touchdowns (83.7 percent catch rate, 7.8 YPT) in 22 games for Illinois. The Bengals let Samaje Perine walk, and Brown is faster and more skilled than both Trayveon Williams and Chris Evans. With Joe Mixon seemingly tempting league disciplinary scrutiny with a pair of bizarre off-field events, Brown could be closer to the field than most assume. Read Past Outlooks

Opportunity knocks as Mixon traded
Brown bumps up to the No. 2 spot on Cincinnati's depth chart behind Zack Moss, with Joe Mixon in line to be traded to the Texans, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Brown earned a larger role in Cincinnati's offense during the second half of his rookie season, securing the No. 2 gig for himself during the final six games of the campaign, but he ended the year with just 44 carries for 179 yards, plus 14 catches for 156 yards and a score. Though Moss is coming off an impressive season in Indianapolis, Brown could offer him real competition for touches, depending on what other additions the Bengals make to the running back depth chart.

Lead back role possible in '24
Brown could have a strong chance of taking over as the Bengals' No. 1 back in 2024, with Joe Mixon potentially set to be released before a roster bonus comes due March 18, per Ben Baby of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Baby notes Mixon is due $3 million on March 18, but the Bengals can secure $5.8 million in cap savings by releasing him before that date. Brown logged just 58 total touches across 12 games as a rookie in 2023, yet the combination of the explosiveness he flashed and a college resume that included a 1,643-yard, 10-touchown season on the ground as a senior at Illinois in 2022 could be enough to convince the team Mixon is expendable.
