Timberwolves and Hawks Set for Interconference Battle
The Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena on Wednesday night.

The Timberwolves (22-22) have been on an upswing of late in what has been an inconsistent season, as they’ll enter Wednesday having won two straight and six of the last eight contests overall. Their most recent success was a narrow one, as they edged the New York Knicks by a 112-110 score Tuesday night. Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 21 points, complementing them with three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Karl-Anthony Towns totaled 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal. D’Angelo Russell delivered 17 points, four assists, two rebounds, one steal and one block. Jaylen Nowell compiled 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal.

The Timberwolves will likely remain without Jordan McLaughlin (COVID-19 protocols) for Wednesday’s game.

The Hawks (18-25) have been mired in a long stretch of futility that has endangered their season, but they will come into Wednesday’s clash having just snapped a five-game losing streak with a 121-114 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night. Trae Young led the Hawks with 30 points, complementing them with 11 assists, four rebounds and one steal. De’Andre Hunter supplied 20 points, nine boards, two assists and one block. John Collins generated a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double that include two assists and three blocks. Danilo Gallinari matched Collins’ scoring and added three rebounds and three assists. Kevin Huerter registered 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. Onyeka Okongwu tallied 12 points, eight boards, three assists, three blocks and one steal.

The Hawks are expected to be without Bogdan Bogdanovic (knee) and Clint Capela (ankle) for Wednesday’s game.

Wednesday’s game marks the second and final meeting between the teams this season. The Hawks hold a 1-0 series lead, having notched a 121-110 win Dec. 6.
