Rise to top continues
Morales defeated Max Griffin via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
One of the brightest prospects in the sport today, the 23-year-old Morales showed a ton in this fight, his first with the UFC in which he didn't blow through his competition. Morales lost Round 1 on all three scorecards. He quickly righted the ship, creating far more space between he and Griffin on the feet, allowing Morales to land several damaging shots. More importantly, he stuffed all eight takedown attempts from the powerful Griffin. It's easy see why Morales is so highly regarded. He's huge (6-foot-3), athletic, and has fought some quality opposition at such a young age. The sky would appear to be the limit here.

Morales will no longer face Rinat Fakhretdinov at UFC Vegas 66 on Dec. 17, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear whether Morales is dealing with an injury that prompted his removal from the mid-December card, but Fakhretdinov will now face Bryan Battle. It's not yet known when Morales will return to the Octagon.

Gets an intriguing opponent
Morales will take on Rinat Fakhretdinov in a welterweight matchup at UFC Vegas 66 on Dec. 17, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The undefeated Morales has rolled through two UFC opponents in Trevin Giles and Adam Fugitt since earning his contract on the Contender Series, and company brass appears to have decided that it's time for a step up in competition. In comes Fakhretdinov, a 19-1 fighter who rolled through Andreas Michailidis via decision in his UFC debut last June. Fakhretdinov racked up five takedowns in that bout, while Morales will counter that with an impressive 86 percent takedown defense. Morales is a plenty-capable wrestler in his own right, while also bringing a solid 5.36 significant strikes landed per minute to the table.
