Draws Niko Price in June
WelterweightUFC
April 4, 2024
Wells will take on Niko Price in a welterweight matchup at UFC 302 on June 1, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Wells ran off four consecutive wins to start his UFC career but is now coming off back-to-back losses, most recently falling to Max Griffin via split decision in February. He now faces a brawler in Price who has faced a much higher caliber of competition, but also happens to own just one victory in his last six trips to the Octagon. Wells will be at a disadvantage in terms of height, reach and striking volume, so utilizing his wrestling will be key here. Wells averages more than three takedowns per 15 minutes of fight time, while Price defends takedowns at a mediocre 66 percent clip.

Second straight defeat
WelterweightUFC
February 10, 2024
Wells lost to Max Griffin via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Good luck trying to figure out which man deserved this decision. Wells ballooned to a -165 favorite by the time the fight went off. He clearly won Round 2 and lost Round 3. It was the first frame that decided the bout. Wells is super explosive, particularly in short bursts, but he lacks technical skill, and his gas tank is questionable. His effectiveness was way down late in this fight. Now 37 years old, Wells won his first four UFC bouts but has lost his last two. Given his advanced age, Jeremiah will find himself firmly in must-win territory his next time out.

Crushing loss to Carlston Harris
WelterweightUFC
August 5, 2023
Wells lost to Carlston Harris via submission (anaconda choke) at 1:50 of Round 3 at UFC on ESPN 50 on Saturday in Nashville.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. In a fight which went off as a pick 'em, Wells dominated from the very start. He powered forward and landed repeated, uncontested takedowns in each of the first two rounds and kept Harris pinned to the mat in the process. He tried the same thing early in Round 3, but left his next exposed. Harris rolled over and clamped on the anaconda choke, eventually putting Wells to sleep. Jeremiah had won each of his first four UFC bouts -- including three via stoppage -- so his roster spot isn't in jeopardy, but set to turn 37 years of age in late-October, this was a setback Wells simply could not afford.

Remains perfect in UFC
WelterweightUFC
April 23, 2023
Wells defeated Matthew Semelsberger via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This fight was nowhere near as close as the "split decision" term would lead you to believe. Yes, Wells was officially knocked down in each of the first two rounds, but his grappling was so good that the end result never appeared to be in doubt. Wells fired off 10 takedown attempts, landing six of them. Those half-dozen successful tries turned into a whopping 11:12 worth of control time. Wells' wrestling was so good that he was credited with no less than 3:09 worth of control time in each of the three frames. A perfect 4-0 since arriving in the company in June 2021, the UFC needs to give Wells a bump up in competition his next time out. He'll be 37 years of age in late-October, so the runway here is limited despite Wells' hot start.
