Pulls upset in Texas
Gooden defeated Wellington Turman via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:11 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Austin, Texas.
ANALYSIS
Gooden was in desperate need of a bounce-back effort following his unanimous decision loss to Carlston Harris this past March, a fight which he missed weight for. He answered the bell here against Turman, an opponent that can't get out of his own way at the moment. Jared spent a good chunk of Round 1 on his back and looked quite lousy prior to the stoppage, but he managed to stagger Turman with a left hook before eventually getting the back of his clearly compromised opponent. The tap came seconds later. While this was a nice win, Gooden is 2-5 in seven fights over the course of two stints with the UFC, so little should be expected moving forward. On the bright side, he'll walk away with a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus -- one of a whopping 10 post-fight bonuses awarded on the evening.

Turman fight scheduled
Gooden will compete against Wellington Turman in a welterweight fight at UFC Austin on Dec. 2, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Despite missing weight for his previous welterweight fight, Gooden will give the class another go against an inexperienced fighter in that division. Turman logged his welterweight debut at UFC on ABC 5, one in which he lost to Randy Brown.

Not competitive after weight miss
Gooden lost to Carlston Harris via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
As if missing weight by a whopping six pounds on Friday morning wasn't bad enough, Gooden had to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Harris, only to drop a lopsided unanimous decision anyway. Jared remained competitive for about a round, which, not coincidentally, was the only frame in which he was able to remain upright. The 29-year-old Atlanta native has already been cut from the UFC on one occasion, and it wouldn't be the least bit surprising to see it happen once again given the actions of the past 48 hours.

Fight goes on despite weight miss
Gooden remains in line to face Carlston Harris at UFC Las Vegas on Saturday despite missing weight by six pounds, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a massive weight miss that will almost certainly give Gooden an advantage on fight night, though he remains a sizable betting underdog of approximately (+250) with the event just over 24 hours away. He'll have to give up 30 percent of his fight purse in order for the bout to proceed and will not be eligible for any post-fight bonuses.
