Taps out to Paddy Pimblett
LightweightUFC
March 19, 2022
Vargas lost to Paddy Pimblett via submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:49 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
No one gave Vargas a chance to win this fight, as evidenced by the fact he was the largest underdog on the card at +475, but he actually had Paddy rocked in the early going and appeared to be in fine shape before getting reversed along the fence and giving up his back. Vargas fought the choke hard before eventually being forced to tap out. He probably needs a victory his next time out to save his job. Vargas is 36 years of age and is 1-3 in his first four UFC bouts. That's not a recipe for sticking on the roster for an extended period of time.

Vargas will take on Paddy Pimblett in London on March 19, MMAFighting.com reports.

Earns first UFC victory
LightweightUFC
April 24, 2021
Vargas defeated Zhurong via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-26, 29-28) at UFC 261 on Saturday in Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
It's Vargas' first victory in three attempts with the UFC and a win that likely saved his job. It was a surprisingly effective performance from a fighter who had shown little to date. Vargas has had more success on the feet than the mat throughout his pro career, but his more effective weapon on Saturday was a deep guillotine choke which nearly finished Zhurong in Round 2. He wasn't able to get the stoppage, but it set the tone for the rest of the bout. Vargas' long-term ceiling is extremely limited, but this was a nice showing as a +200 underdog.
Next fight scheduled
LightweightUFC
March 16, 2021
Vargas (undisclosed) is set to face Zhu Rong in a fight on the UFC's April 24 card, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Vargas withdrew from his scheduled bout last September for an undisclosed reason but appears to finally be ready to reenter the Octagon. The 35-year-old has yet to earn a victory in two tries since joining the UFC but gets another shot against a fighter in Rong who is making his debut with the promotion. Vargas yields four inches of height and one of reach to his opponent, so he'll need to work inside to get in his punches, which is typically his mode of attack.
WD's from fight with injury

September 1, 2020
Vargas has an undisclosed injury and will not fight Alan Patrick at the UFC event on September 12, C. Contreras Legaspi of laaficion.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vargas is still dealing with an injury of some type and will not be ready for his fight in mid-September. It will force the UFC to have to find Patrick a replacement on short notice. Vargas has not fought since mid-February when he was disqualified due to an illegal knee against Brok Weaver.
