Struggles in title fight
BantamweightUFC
January 20, 2024
Bueno Silva came up short in her quest for the vacant UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship on Saturday, falling to Raquel Pennington via unanimous decision (46-49, 46-49, 45-49) at UFC 297 in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Neither woman really distinguished themselves in what was one of the weakest title fights in recent memory, but Bueno Silva was particularly underwhelming. Her very few strong moments came early on. It appeared as if Bueno Silva was largely overwhelmed by the moment. She didn't manage her energy well and was rendered completely ineffective the final few rounds. It shouldn't be all that surprising. Despite entering as a -165 favorite, Bueno Silva has never shown much in her UFC run other than a handful of out-of-nowhere submissions. The Brazilian will be 33 years of age in late-August, and it's overwhelmingly likely this will this will end up being her only shot at UFC gold.

That is no longer going to be an issue soon, and she's eligible to return to the octagon at the end of November. Before the Holm fight, Bueno Silva had won her previous three contests, and she will look to secure a statement win to begin 2024 on a solid note.

Taps out Holly Holm in main event
BantamweightUFC
July 15, 2023
Bueno Silva defeated Holly Holm via submission (standing guillotine) at 0:38 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 49 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was unquestionably the biggest fight of Bueno Silva's career, and she responded in a major way. She looked pretty comfortable in Round 1 despite likely losing the frame. Bueno Silva seemed to be seeing everything Holm threw her way. She landed a few big shots in open space which forced Holly to attempt a takedown early in Round 2. It was a sloppy try and Holm left her neck exposed in the process. Bueno Silva clamped on a standing guillotine and squeezed with all her might, forcing her opponent to eventually tap. That stoppage would go on to earn her a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Bueno Silva is tough to get a read on. She'll be 32 years of age in late August, and although she has eight career wins via submission, she doesn't appear to have one standout skill inside the Octagon. The Brazilian has won four in a row, although the wins have come against Wu Yanan, Lina Lansberg, Stephanie Egger and an aging Holm. Bueno Silva seems likely to have to prove herself a couple more times before there's any talk of a potential title fight.
