Easily handles Brian Kelleher
Garbrandt defeated Brian Kelleher via KO (punch) at 3:42 of Round 1 at UFC 296 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This looked like an extremely attractive fight for Garbrandt from a stylistic standpoint, and it played out that way inside the Octagon. He ate a few too many damaging low kicks from Kelleher, but Cody's massive power and speed edge resulted in an easy knockout victory. Now 32 years of age, Garbrandt's offensive skills look as sharp as ever. The concern now, and moving forward, will be if his durability will hold up. It wasn't an issue against Kelleher, but it's going to be talked about every single time he steps into the Octagon against a bit better opponent.

Kelleher next opponent
Garbrandt (undisclosed) will compete against Brian Kelleher in a bantamweight fight at UFC 296 in Paradise on Dec. 16, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Garbrandt will have one more fight in 2023 after all. He was scheduled to fight Mario Bautista at the UFC's Aug. 19 event but withdrew for undisclosed reasons. Earlier in the year, Garbrandt defeated Trevin Jones to snap a brief losing streak dating back to 2021.

Scratched from Bautista fight
Garbrant (undisclosed) will not fight Mario Bautista at UFC's Aug. 19 event, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Though it's unclear what type of injury Garbrandt is facing, the issue is severe enough to prevent him from taking on Mario Bautista at UFC 292. Garbrandt was looking to build on his victory over Trevin Jones in March, which marked his second win in his last seven fights. Garbrandt's replacement has yet to be named, and it's unknown how long he'll be sidelined.

Facing Mario Bautista in August
Garbrandt agreed to fight Mario Bautista in a bantamweight bout at UFC's Aug. 19 event, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Garbrandt was victorious over Trevin Jones in March, which stopped the bleeding on a stretch during which he lost five of six fights. Bautista has won his past four bouts and six of his last seven, and he is coming off a dominant win against Guido Cannetti in March.

Snaps brief losing streak
Garbrandt defeated Trevin Jones via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 285 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The fact that Garbrandt emerged victorious is all that really matters here, but this was by no means a dominant performance. He was better than Jones on the feet the first two rounds, but not exceptionally so. Cody did land two impressive takedowns and appeared to be on the way to a clear decision win, at which point Garbrandt got popped with a couple big shots from Jones in Round 3, which he didn't handle well. Cody's durability has been a major issue in the past, and the fact Jones -- a fighter with little power -- damaged him on the few shots he landed isn't a positive sign. Those expecting the 31-year-old Ohio native to return to the championship-level we have seen from him in the past appeared destined to come away disappointed.
