Colin White

White's numbers have been trending in the wrong direction since his mini-breakout back in 2018-19. He managed 10 goals and 18 points in 45 games in 2020-21, but those 10 tallies were the direct result of an unsustainable 14.5 percent shooting percentage, a considerably higher number than White has posted in the past. Most concerning is the fact that White -- who is just 24 years old and signed at a cap hit of $4.75 million through the 2024-25 season -- has seen his playing time decrease in each of the past two years. The Senators have a lot of quality young players in their lineup and White is at risk of being left in the dust if he doesn't get off to a fast start in 2021-22.

White took a major step back in his second full NHL season in 2019-20, finishing the year with just seven goals and 23 points in 61 contests after posting 14 goals and 41 points in 71 games during the previous campaign. The 2015 first-round pick is expected to center Ottawa's third line in 2020-21, and at this point he doesn't appear poised to have a regular role with the man advantage, so a major bounce-back campaign should be considered unlikely at best.

White notched 14 goals and 41 points in 71 games during his first full NHL season in 2018-19. He was a liability in the plus-minus category, ending the campaign with an ugly minus-24 rating, but that was to be expected with the Senators finishing last in goals allowed. That said, White wasn't great in his own zone at the AHL level, either, as he posted a minus-17 rating in 47 minor-league appearances in 2017-18. While he hasn't tallied more than 20 goals at any level since juniors, White has the potential to be a prolific scorer, and could potentially reach the 20-goal mark this season. The 2015 first-round pick is projected to open the 2019-20 campaign in a prominent role, centering Ottawa's top line and first power-play unit.

White should get chances this year after spending most of 2017-18 at AHL Belleville. With the Senators in a full-scale rebuild, the American pro is likely to get a serious opportunity to earn consistent ice time right off the bat. However, he didn't exactly flood the stat sheet in his first year of NHL action, scoring just two goals to go along with four assists in 21 games. White might find it tough to establish himself as an offensive producer this season. He's an intriguing commodity in most dynasty leagues, but the 21-year-old is likely a year away from being a serious contributor.

White got his first taste of NHL action in 2016-17, registering one shot on goal while averaging 13:43 of ice time in two regular-season contests. The 20-year-old pivot also made his NHL playoff debut in the Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Penguins, but he only logged 2:39 of ice time in that contest. Ottawa’s deep down the middle, so White will likely spend the majority of the 2017-18 campaign continuing to develop in the minors, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him spend a decent chunk of the season with the big club as well. The 2015 first-round pick’s limited role with the Senators will likely keep him from obtaining fantasy relevance this season, but he’s a player owners should keep an eye on in dynasty formats.

Drafted in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, White enjoyed an exceptional and near-full season with Boston College, notching 19 goals, 24 assists, 46 PIM and a noteworthy plus-24 rating. All in all, the center was the second-highest point-getter on the team, showcasing the offensive skillset that oozes upside. The Sens are currently stacked at the center position, allowing the youngster to develop and in due time, he’ll get his shot in the NHL. For now, White has above-average skills with the puck and has the look of a 20-goal scorer in the big leagues. The Massachusetts native is a two-way force that has been compared to the likes of the Boston Bruins star Patrice Bergeron, and continues to improve his game at an accelerated rate. If White keeps the pace up, you could be looking at a bottom-six forward in the near future, with the very real goal of being the go-to center for the Senators in the next few years.
