The Cowboys released Poe on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Poe started every game for the Cowboys this season and recorded eight tackles in the process. However, the Cowboys were apparently looking for a trade partner this week and after an unsuccessful search, they cut Poe loose. Poe could draw interest on the open market for teams looking for veteran depth on the interior defensive line.

The veteran defensive tackle signed a two-year deal with Dallas in the offseason after finishing up his second campaign in Carolina. Poe can still consistently generate a push up the middle, recording four sacks in only 11 games last year, but he hasn't produced more than 39 tackles in a season since 2014. His IDP utility is limited, but he'll add experience and a physical presence to the Cowboys' defensive line.
Poe signed a three-year deal with the Panthers in March and should be an anchor in their four-man front after playing all 16 games in each of the last two seasons. The veteran defensive tackle is likely to give about 25-40 tackles and a couple sacks for Carolina.
Poe signed a one-year deal with the Falcons this offseason, and the team hopes he can anchor the defensive front. Atlanta was tied for a conference-worst 4.5 yards allowed per rush last season, but Poe has the ability to change all that. He should be able to provide 20-40 tackles and a couple of sacks if he stays healthy.
Poe finished 2014 with 45 tackles (37 solo) and six sacks for the Chiefs. The former first-round pick remains the anchor in the middle of the Chiefs defensive line, and will serve in that role again in 2015.
The 2012 first-rounder pick is considered to be the anchor of the Chiefs' defensive line. Poe recorded 51 tackles and 4.5 sacks while eating up blockers in 2013. He should continue to put up solid numbers in his third professional season, but his IDP ceiling will be limited while working as the nose tackle in the Chiefs' 3-4 scheme.
Poe, the Chiefs' first-round selection in 2012, will start at nose tackle in the team's base 3-4 defense. He came on strong late in his rookie season and with tremendous size and athleticism Poe is the best bet to become a disruptive force along the Kansas City defensive line.
Poe, the Chiefs' first-round pick, will compete for the starting nose tackle position with Anthony Toribio and Jerrell Powe. While he is raw from a technique standpoint, he has all the physical tools to earn the playing time and make an impact. Nevertheless, 3-4 nose tackles typically do not produce enough tackles or sacks to be an effective IDP.
