Morgan was cut from the Cardinals' practice squad Saturday, Howard Balzer of GoPHNX.com reports.

ANALYSIS
Morgan was brought in Dec. 20 as an emergency option for the Cardinals. With Kyler Murray (knee) done for the year and Colt McCoy nursing a concussion, he was third in line behind David Blough and Trace McSorley at quarterback. However, as the Cardinals enter the final week of their season, and with two healthy quarterbacks on the active roster, the team has decided to cut Morgan loose.

ANALYSIS
Morgan has spent time in the Jets, Panthers, Steelers and Colts organizations since being drafted in the fourth round by New York in 2020. The 25-year-old quarterback is lauded for his football acumen but may not have the physical tools to make it in the NFL. If Seattle were to sign Morgan, he would likely compete with Jacob Eason for the third-string quarterback job behind Geno Smith and Drew Lock.

Morgan didn't see any time on the active roster as a rookie last season after being picked in the fourth round out of Florida International. The Jets are hoping to groom the quarterback into a long-term backup behind 2021 second-overall pick Zach Wilson, but it's unclear just how far along Morgan is in that process. How Morgan fares in preseason should help answer that question and will also determine whether he or Mike White opens the season as New York's No. 2 signal caller.

Morgan's a raw project, and in an ideal world for the Jets, the rookie fourth-rounder won't play a single snap once the games start to count in 2020. The Green Bay native grew up idolizing Brett Favre, and Morgan boasts a cannon of an arm and toughness reminiscent of the Packers legend. Morgan's all arm strength and no touch, however, so he'll need to greatly improve his accuracy and decision-making if he wants to stick in the NFL. As a rookie, he'll compete with David Fales for the team's backup quarterback spot.
