Tua Tagovailoa
22-Year-Old QuarterbackQB
2020 Fantasy Outlook
The fifth overall pick in this year's draft, Tagovailoa likely would compete for the Week 1 starting job if not for injury concerns. Specifically, a hip dislocation suffered last November. Tagovailoa was given medical clearance for football activities in March, but, thanks to the coronavirus-impacted offseason, the extent of his recovery is uncertain. Durability is about the only question with Tagovailoa, who in addition to the injured hip had surgery on both ankles, sprained his right knee, fractured his left index finger and suffered a concussion during his three-year stint at Alabama. The lefty's dual-threat skills are plenty evident, getting top marks from scouts for his accuracy and decision making. (Indeed, at Alabama he threw 87 touchdowns to a mere 11 interceptions in 32 games.) At 6-0, he doesn't have ideal height, but gone are the days when short stature is universally held against a quarterback, especially one who is mobile outside the pocket and possesses a strong arm with a quick release. The Dolphins likely will allow Tagovailoa to develop behind veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick but could ease him into the job later this season, provided his hip checks out. Fitzpatrick turns 38 in November, and Tua is the future. Any rookie quarterback is a risk (especially behind an offensive line as weak as the Dolphins'), but Tagovailoa has the skills that portend fantasy upside. Read Past Outlooks

Signs rookie deal
QBMiami Dolphins
May 11, 2020
Tagovailoa signed his rookie contract with the Dolphins on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The No. 5 overall selection of the 2020 NFL Draft, Tagovailoa is now officially under contract in Miami for at least the next four years, with a fifth-year option built in. His deal is worth a guaranteed $30.3 million with a signing bonus of $19.6 million. The former Alabama star's outstanding accuracy and decision making, in addition to his tangible athleticism, will lend him difference-making upside under center when healthy. However, having undergone procedures on a dislocated hip and both ankles in college, it remains to be seen whether Tagovailoa will return to pre-surgery form by Week 1. In the event that any questions about the rookie's development or recovery linger into the regular season, he'll have the benefit of learning behind an experienced quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick.
