Craig Reynolds

27-Year-Old Running BackRB
Detroit Lions
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Unless Detroit re-signs Justin Jackson, it looks like Reynolds will get another crack at holding down the No. 3 spot on the running back depth chart. However, the modest promotion may be neutralized by the Lions' decision to spend significant resources to upgrade both RB1 and RB2 this offseason. Accordingly, Reynolds now finds himself behind a well-paid David Montgomery and first-round pick Jahmyr Gibbs. Given these investments - plus the likelihood that Montgomery and Gibbs are less injury-prone than the departed D'Andre Swift - Reynolds can't expect any more than the handful of carries he received when spelling Swift and Jamaal Williams over the past two years. ANALYSIS
Reynolds had a couple of productive games during the first half of the season while filling in for David Montgomery, who missed multiple games due to injuries. However, both Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs managed to stay healthy over the second half of the year, leaving little work for Reynolds outside of returning kickoffs on special teams. Now set to become an unrestricted free agent, Reynolds is a candidate to return to Detroit but will need to land a new contract this offseason.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
Reynolds instantly became a fan favorite in Detroit after scoring a relatively impressive preseason touchdown a day after trying out for the team. While he went on to spend most of the year on the practice squad, the Kutztown product displaced 2021 seventh-round draft pick Jermar Jefferson for the No. 3 role on the depth chart along the way. Reynolds flashed again while filling in for D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams in Weeks 14 and 15. In those two games, Reynolds broke multiple 20-plus yard runs against Denver and Arizona and ultimately tallied 195 rushing yards on 37 carries while adding a little work in the passing game. Even though he will begin the 2022 campaign buried on the depth chart, Reynolds is a name to keep in mind in case injuries again strike Detroit's backfield.
