Eighth overall selection T.J. Hockenson projects well for the long term, but in re-draft formats he carries a razor-thin margin of error at his post-draft acquisition cost.

Nauta had a respectable rookie campaign for a seventh-round draft pick, as he was kept around all year and ultimately used in the final six games of the season as a fullback. Even though the previous starter at the position, Nick Bawden, is now healthy, Bawden has also ended each of the past two seasons on IR and it's not impossible for Nauta to beat him out for the starting job. With Logan Thomas no longer around, Nauta could also have the inside track to the No. 3 tight end role behind T.J. Hockenson and Jesse James, though the athletic but undrafted Hunter Bryant may have something to say about that. Regardless, Nauta seems to provide depth at multiple positions and that alone should help him earn a roster spot.
Detroit wasn't done reloading it's tight end corps after signing Jesse James to a lucrative deal in free agency and drafting T.J. Hockenson with the No. 8 overall pick. Nauta, selected in the seventh round, becomes the third addition of the offseason and may have been a more high-profile selection if not for his underwhelming performance at the combine, where he clocked a miserable 4.91-second 40 time. That lack of speed wasn't a huge problem for the Georgia product in college, as Nauta caught 30 of 35 passes (86 percent catch rate) for 430 yards and three scores. However, there's no guarantee he makes the 53-man roster out of training camp and Nauta will have to beat out a slew of other contenders for the No. 3 job on the depth chart.
