After a promising rookie season in 2018, when Sharpe posted 522 yards, he failed to regain that level of production. In the four years since, he failed to reach 330 yards. He's expected to provide the Bears with depth at wide receiver.
Sharpe struggled mightily during his brief tenure with the Vikings, playing in just four games before getting waived in December. The 2016 fifth-round pick then landed on the Chiefs' practice squad, only to be jettisoned off a short while later. The 26-year-old may have fallen into a solid landing spot, however, after the Falcons traded away Julio Jones leaving just Calvin Ridley, Russell Gage and Olamide Zaccheaus as the team's top three pass catchers. Especially in such a narrow target tree, one that admittedly also includes all-world TE prospect Kyle Pitts, it's not hard to imagine a scenario in which Sharpe returns to the type of form that saw him as a useful target with the Titans back in 2019.
Sharpe joined Minnesota on a one-year deal in March after totaling 92 catches for 1,167 yards and eight touchdowns in 47 games for Tennessee. The 2016 fifth-round pick split time as the No. 3 wideout with Adam Humphries - who missed four games - in 2019, and he surpassed 40 receiving yards only two times. The departure of Stefon Diggs opens up significant volume in the Vikings' passing game, but first-round pick Justin Jefferson likely will step into the starting role opposite No. 1 option Adam Thielen. Sharpe should enter training camp as the favorite for the role of third receiver, but he doesn't have much roster security and could be unseated with strong performances from Bisi Johnson or Chad Beebe.
Sharpe has failed to gain traction after his solid rookie campaign in 2016, during which he posted 41 receptions for 522 yards and two touchdowns. His 2017 season was lost entirely due to a foot injury, and he didn't return with much production in the 2018 season, racking up only 26 receptions for 316 yards and two scores. That he managed only marginal production despite the absence of top tight end Delanie Walker and a lackluster wide receiving corps behind Corey Davis doesn't bode well for his future production in the league. Now heading into his fourth season, Sharpe will find himself fighting for a roster spot after the team added Adam Humphries via free agency and spent a second-round draft pick on A.J. Brown.
Remember when Sharpe opened the 2016 season in a starting role as a rookie? Since then Sharpe has tumbled down the depth chart and he's now opening the 2018 season as nothing more than the No. 5 or 6 receiving option behind Rishard Matthews, Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor, not to mention tight ends Delanie Walker and possibly Jonnu Smith. This spells trouble for his prospects ahead of the 2018 season, as the volume is simply unlikely to be there for Sharpe to be a worthwhile fantasy asset. With that said, the University of Massachusetts product is now fully recovered from the stress fracture that wiped away his entire 2017 campaign, and Sharpe could eventually benefit from the fact that Matthews has only played a full 16-game season twice in his six-year career.
Sharpe started from the get-go after being drafted in the fifth round of the 2016 draft, but he turned that opportunity into just 41 catches for 522 yards and two touchdowns. The Titans signed Eric Decker and used the fifth and 72nd overall picks on wide receivers, so Sharpe could fall as low as fifth on the depth chart. While he lacks the measurables to be elite at this level, Sharpe's crisp route running and strong hands should make him a reliable depth receiver for an improving Marcus Mariota.
While the Titans are deep at wide receiver, they don't necessarily have clear-cut starters who have separated themselves from the pack. Sharpe was incredibly productive with 196 receptions for 2,600 yards and 12 touchdowns over his last two seasons at Massachusetts, and the fifth-rounder has turned heads in earning some first-team reps in camp. Still, the rookie has to beat out a bevy of more experienced options if he wants to make an impact when the games actually start to count.
