The Mean Green are now an AAC team, which means a step up in competition. However, they also have a new head coach in Eric Morris, and that’s where things get interesting. Morris played for Mike Leach at Texas Tech, and he’s a Leach acolyte. When Patrick Mahomes exploded at Texas Tech? Morris was his offensive coordinator. He then become the head coach at Incarnate Word and installed an explosive offense that turned the school around. After one year as Washington State’s offensive coordinator, Morris is now coaching North Texas, and Rogers is his new quarterback. In all likelihood, Rogers will be the day one starter when the Warhawks travel to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns in Week 1. Whether he will hold onto that role for the entire season is yet to be determined. In 2021, Rogers seized the starting gig from Rhett Rodriguez and threw for 1,311 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions over seven starts. He’ll be helped along by four of ULM’s five top receivers from last year returning for another season. Junior pivot Jiya Wright flashed major potential in short bursts last season, but for the foreseeable future, this is Rogers’ team.
