Call to Arms – Tuesday

Picking pitchers in DFS is the most important part of the game as they routinely generate the most points. I'm going to try and aid in that picking process with some arms I like. I won't have a set number because it will vary day-to-day and it won't be a guaranteed everyday thing because sometimes the slate just isn't appealing enough to give firm recommendations. That doesn't mean I'll necessarily pass on playing, just that I don't want to offer some tepid endorsements that I'm not even all that comfortable with using myself.

Generally, I'll try to include at least one lower level pick, too. I'll be using DraftKings pricing so this will usually be someone who checks in at $8,000 or less.

Sorry for the late posting today.

Scott Kazmir HOU at SF ($10,200) – Kaz is dominating for him new club with 0.44 ERA in 20.3 IP. The strikeouts are down at 13, but that's more of a small sample size thing than anything else. I still think he's the eight-ish strikeouts per nine guy we've seen the last three years since his return (8.3 K/9 in 478.3 IP). The Giants aren't hitting lefties too well since the break with a .288 wOBA – good for just 23rd in the league.

Joe Ross WAS at LAD ($8,800) – I was really torn on my SP2 option between Ross, Carlos Carrasco and Carlos Martinez. In the end, I opted for Ross fearing the Yankees lineup more than the Dodgers lineup right now. I have some concern that Martinez might be in the start of a wear-down phase as his innings pile up. I'm not sitting him in season-longs because this may just be a small blip, but if he is fatiguing, I worry about using him in DFS. Ross has been fantastic in the bigs going 6+ IP in all but one of his seven starts. He has fanned fewer than six batters just twice with a high of 11. The Dodgers offense has really cooled since the break sitting just 16th in wOBA (.319) and I don't believe they need to be feared right now.

Digging Deeper:

Luis Severino NYY at CLE ($5,500) – I came away from Severino's debut quite impressed, enough to use him on the cheap here at Cleveland. The Indians have hit better of late, but they don't have a lineup that must be shied away from at all costs. It's a different looking lineup of late, too, with the likes of Jose Ramirez, Lonnie Chisenhall, Abraham Almonte, and Chris Johnson in there.
