NHL Playoff Observations: Rangers in Seven?

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • At work, but out of it? Wakey, wakey Caps -- you showed up, but you're not fully functioning. Or functioning at all to start games. In most workplaces, it's called presenteeism, but it's usually a solitary affliction. This is the whole team. Is the coach to blame? He had them ready to roll coming out of the second ...
  • Bulletin board fodder. Jon Cooper on Sunday: "We look back and his [Carey Price] numbers against the Tampa Bay Lightning are very pedestrian compared to the rest of the teams." Uh-oh. Price is already 6-3 with a 1.98 goals-against average and two shutouts in nine games when his team has faced elimination.

  • I have no idea how Ryan McDonagh came back on the ice after that massive hit by Alexander Ovechkin. He's had shoulder injuries in the past. This one could have been a dislocation. Yikes.
  • Chris Kreider's one-man show continued Sunday. He bookended the first with goals -- 40 seconds into the game and then 0.3 from the end. Man, that guy can skate. And he's big. #beast.
  • Welcome to the second round, Jiri Hudler. Ditto Rick Nash. 'Bout time you showed up.
  • Rangers 4, Caps 3. That's the same number of goals (seven) as both teams scored in the three previous games. Yes, you read that right.
  • Ryan Kesler is damn intense. Just saying.
  • The Rangers eliminated the Caps in Game 7s in 2012 and 2013. Will they be three times lucky? That's where my money would sit.
  • Joel Ward is now the Caps' leading scorer. Joel Ward.
  • No Corey Perry would be the difference between the Ducks beating or getting whipped by the Hawks. Then again, the Ducks went 7-2-1 that last time he missed time with a knee injury. But they didn't play the Hawks 10 games straight.
  • Karri Ramo played Flipper in the last couple minutes of the second. Despite the flopping, he managed to keep the puck out. Another yikes.
