NHL Playoff Observations: Don't do it like Pacquiao (I'm talking to you, Habs and Rangers)

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • California had Sharknado; D.C. has Killer Bees -- that's Brouwer, Beagle and Burakovsky. Those boys work damn hard. And they produce.
  • Big Ben chimes every 15 minutes and the sound can be heard up to five miles away. That ringing probably seems louder than that to the Habs. The bell might just toll for them tomorrow night.

  • The Rangers are getting beat at their own game -- heavy hitting, responsible 200' play and brilliant goaltending. And they have only five goals in four games. Yowza.
  • No margin for error. Carey Price had a 2.34 GAA heading into Wednesday night. That's good, but not great. But it would be fine if the Habs were averaging more than 1.77 goals per game this postseason. Yah, 1.77. U-G-L-Y.
  • Ondrej Palat and Alex Killorn. I'd take those guys on my team any day (and every day). #UnsungHeroes.
  • Mike Green needs to buy Braden Holtby a pint or two. Maybe even a pitcher. Holtby sure saved his bacon on that penalty shot.
  • Who's been more valuable -- Jay Beagle and his big-butted play along the wall (and his one goal and four assists) or Rick Nash's perimeter approach that has delivered a goal and five helpers? Hint. It's the former.
  • Funny thing that Carey Price would be only the fourth-best goaltender left in the Eastern Conference. Yah, fourth means last. Just like "charming" is a euphemism for "old" in real estate speak.
  • Tyler Johnson leads the NHL in goals (eight). Let me repeat that. I'll go slowly. T-Y-L-E-R-J-O-H-N-S-O-N. Not Alexander the Gr8 or Steven Stamkos. Or Rick Nash or Corey Perry. Just the itsy-bitsy Tampa spider.
  • Andre Burakovsky. It was a big stage and an even bigger performance. Like the Caps need another creative offensive player ...
  • It's OK, Alex Galchenyuk -- you can come out from under that chair. I know the playoffs are a scary thing. I'm sure a hug will fix that seven-game point slump. Or maybe you can watch film of that Burakovsky guy ...
