Guentzel the Great -- NHL Sunday

Holy Guentzel!

  • Four consecutive goals. And in a 13:52 span. Two came in a 10-second span in the third. And an assist. David Pastrnak who?
  • A hattie and five points. Sean Couturier had a game for the ages and did it with a torn MCL. It's almost Yzerman-esque.

  • The Leafs played rope-a-dope the second half of Saturday's game. It almost ended their season.
  • I can remember seeing four guys in a penalty box. But way back then, they were there because of line brawls and other fisticuffs, not slashes and stupidity. That's not on the refs, regardless of what the Toronto sports media thinks.
  • For as good a goalie as Tuukka Rask is, he's just 10-9 as a Cup goaltender.
  • Sidney Crosby has another multi-point game. Yawn. He's the fourth NHLer to get 60 of those. The others? Wayne Gretzky (103), Mark Messier (77) and Jari Kurri (60).
  • Andrej Vasilevskiy's hero is Vladislav Tretiak. Appropriate, isn't it.
  • Braden Holtby 3, Blue Jackets 0.
  • Matt Murray makes me queasy. The Pens seem to win in spite of him. How long will that last?
  • Jake Guentzel has an incredible 19 goals in 31 playoff games. He's a playoff beast. Just don't overestimate his contribution in the regular season like I did this past year.
