Thursday Night Observations

I'm starting to regret switching my ATS pick from Baltimore to Miami... As bad as the Ravens offense had been, I should have known the Dolphins offense would face tough sledding against that defense on the road during a short week. Once Baltimore, who had been weak against the run, stuffed Jay Ajayi, there wasn't anything left.

• Jay Cutler is due back in Week 9, and there won't be a quarterback controversy. Matt Moore managed 4.0 YPA, threw two pick sixes and took three sacks.

• Jay Ajayi had 23 rushing yards on 13 carries, and that included a 21-yard run. Mercifully had he four catches for 18 yards, but the Dolphins run blocking is abominable.

• Jarvis Landry had 33 yards on 12 targets. He couldn't separate and he doesn't have the speed to hurt teams for big plays. Kenny Stills and Leonte Carroo managed a few positive plays, but 6.5 and 6.0 YPT, respectively, isn't much.

• Joe Flacco appeared to be concussed when he was hit during a slide and his helmet was knocked off. To that point he wasn't doing much other than one nice deep throw to Jeremy Maclin for a TD. Ryan Mallett took over and handed the ball off in the blowout.

• Alex Collins looked fast, quick and decisive, rushing for 113 yards on 18 carries and catching two passes for 30 more yards. He's the starter now, with the less talented Buck Allen serving as the backup, though Allen himself had 17 carries for 53 yards.

• Jeremy Maclin caught a 34-yard TD pass, but did little else. Breshard Perriman might as well not be on the team - he saw two targets, one out of bounds, the other thrown into the turf before he turned around. Ben Watson caught a short TD, but had two catches for six yards.

• Justin Tucker uncharacteristically had a field goal blocked, but he also boomed a 55-yarder that was straight down the middle and another 48-yarder, which for him is like a PAT.
