Saturday Training Camp Notes

- According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Mike Wallace has turned down a five-year, $50 million deal from the Steelers.

I'm sure Dwayne Bowe wishes he had this problem. The Steelers historically have not negotiated with holdouts and this was more than the Steelers just extended Antonio Brown for. There was no word as to how much was guaranteed (remember this is football and not baseball) so this move was very well a PR move. The fan base now knows that the front office has tried to work with Wallace and this development paints him as being selfish. If I had to guess, something will get worked out sooner rather than later for the speedy Wallace.

- Tony Moeaki made it through his first practice without any restrictions.

I'd feel much better about Moeaki had the Chiefs not signed insurance policy Kevin Boss in the offseason. When on the field, Moeaki showed tremendous upside with the ability to make acrobatic-like catches. Unfortunately, the ?when on the field? part has been the problem. If Moeaki can stay healthy, he?s a good candidate to be your bye-week fill-in.

- Ryan Tannehill signed a four-year deal with the Dolphins.

Only Kendall Wright and Justin Blackmon remain the unsigned first round picks. Tannehill, a converted quarterback from a wide receiver, has a ton of athleticism but it remains to be seen if that will play in the NFL. As it is, the Dolphins should go with either David Garrard or Matt Moore (my pick) under center to start the season. With arguably the worst set of receivers in the league, it unlikely any of the quarterbacks should be on your radar.

- Mikel Leshoure left practice with a hamstring injury.

Leshoure is a guy I?ve written about and see a lot of fantasy potential. However, his off-field issues have landed him on Suspension Island for the first two games of the season and he?s likely to miss some practice time with this injury. As a result, Kevin Smith should be the biggest fantasy running back in Detroit with Jahvid Best dealing with concussion issues. With Smith carrying his own baggage as far as injury history, I still think Leshoure is worth a late-round gamble.

- Riley Cooper broke his collarbone.

The most commonly broken bone in the body, Cooper will likely miss significant time during training camp. As a result, other players will see reps which suddenly makes a guy like Marvin McNutt more interesting in deeper fantasy leagues.

- Jamaal Charles has his swag back.

Don?t ask me what that is, please. It would seem to indicate that Charles? knee is feeling good and he could return to the form of being a top-5 back. The more important issue in Kansas City backfield seems to be turning to who will get the goal line carries, now that Peyton Hillis is on the roster.

- Stevan Ridley has worked with the first team on offense.

Things in a matter of days have been a little bit of a roller coaster for the New England running backs. The release of Joseph Addai has whittled down the options by one. Now, Ridley looks to be the starter and player to target in drafts but Shane Vereen is still another option. Danny Woodhead will get his fair share of touches as well but keep in mind BenJarvus Green-Ellis had 24 touchdowns over the last two seasons.
