NHL Playoff Observations -- Tuesday

Just a few things that caught my eye ...

  • I can read lips, Drew Doughty. I can read lips. BTW, are you signing up for anger management classes with Brett Lawrie?
  • Dustin Penner, hero? You've come a long way from your pancake days, my friend.
  • Have we seen the last of Michal Rozsival? That hit from Dustin Brown was one of those hyperextension/deceleration mechanisms that can tear an ACL like a wet Kleenex. And he'll be 34 in September ...
  • Speaking of Doughty. The guy's career is back on track in a HUGE way. And that's courtesy of Darryl Sutter, captain of the Resurrection Ship.
  • Anze Kopitar's ankles scare me. First, it was that freakish fall that snapped his right ankle and tore ligaments last March. Now, it was an ugly twist of the left ankle late in the third as he fell over backwards in front of the net. Honestly, I held my breath.
  • Ray Whitney might be old in hockey and dawg years, but he's one quick and shifty little dude.
  • When was the last time you saw the goalie's glove get knocked off and chucked into the corner? I'm not sure I can remember a time ...
  • Look -- D-to-D passes are supposed to open up a lane and make transitions easier. That is, if you make that next pass. The Coyotes spent the entire OT missing that point ... and the next pass.
  • Sixteen games. That's how long it took slap-happy defender, Keith Yandle, to find twine.
  • If ifs, ands or buts were candies and nuts, the Coyotes would have scored on that five-on-three. And we'd be waiting on a Game 6 instead of putting hockey bags into buses bound for Quebec City. This could well be the last game played in the desert.
  • He may have lost, but Mike Smith sure had his mojo back tonight. His draft stock is going up, up, UP.
  • Are the Kings about to redefine the Wikipedia entry for destiny? You know I dislike them, but I have to admit I am impressed. Too bad we all have to wait over a week to see them resume their quest.
