NHL Playoff Observations -- Wednesday

Just a few things that caught my eye ...

  • Double digits -- the Pens can roll over now that they've saved face.
  • Is it me or is it completely counterproductive for a guy to play hockey against a steamroller like Dustin Brown when it hurts his head to play tag with his kids? Yes, I'm talking to you, Daniel Sedin. C'mon.
  • Orca's coach Alain Vigneault decided to go with the goalie who gave his team the best shot to win. OUCH. Check the day-old rack this summer for Roberto Luongo -- his best-before has expired in Vancouver. All of Canada, in fact. Trouble is, they won't get back half of the haul they would if they moved Cory Schneider.
  • The Kings have been playing playoff hockey all season long. Too bad none of us watched or paid attention until now -- we might have taken a few more of them in playoff pools if we had.
  • Fantasy hockey goes mainstream in today's Toronto Star -- a feature on how the performance (or non-performance) of the Canucks and Penguins affects 50 percent of all poolies on two Canadian pool sites. That 50 percent includes me, at least as far as the Pens go. I just consider my entry as a donation at this point.
  • The Sens were dominant; I didn't think they had it in them. Their resiliency, particularly without captain Daniel Alfredsson, is utterly remarkable.
  • Does it really matter that Raffi Torres is suspended indefinitely? The Hawks are down one of their best players. And Torres will always have a job as long as the game is what it is right now. That's just wrong.
  • Kyle Turris sure found the antivenom fast -- he'd had been absolutely snake-bitten in the third period but OT was the charm. Great goal. Half clapper, top (top) cheddar.
