NHL Playoff Observations -- Lord Stanley Game One

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Raffi Torres -- now that's quite a hunch, Mr. Alain Vigneault. Ballsy move. And lucky.
  • Worst playoff game I've seen in a long time. No flow. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi would be ashamed.
  • Just watched an interview on CBC National -- Peter Mansbridge interviewing Gary Bettman about Winnipeg. Creeeepy. They were so close to each other that I'm not sure their aging eyes could even focus sharply on each other. The lack of personal space made it almost impossible to watch. Sort of like a Thrashers game...
  • Clam chowder or planked Pacific salmon -- the mayoral bets are in. I think there are a few Nanaimo bars in there for good measure. Best bets in a long time, no matter who loses.
  • I've re-wound that Dan Hamhuis injury a dozen times and I still can't figure it out. Sure, his shoulder whipped around a little and one knee looked a tad wobbly. Or maybe his tailbone hammered the boards? Maybe he popped a groin. Any way, it's a huge blow for Vancouver -- he's one of their shutdown anchors on the blue line.
  • Eight for 25? Thirty-two percent? Henrik Sedin was once again completely dominated in the face-off circle. Masochistic, yes. But not nearly as much as the Bruins' power play. Football teams can decline penalties; some hockey teams only wish they could.
  • Vancouver in six? When the home team wins Game 1 they have gone on to win the Cup 86.3 per cent of the time.
