NBA Notes

In the spirit of DDD's weekly NFL notes, I'll even try to sprinkle in some pop culture…

Andrew Bynum (knee) made his season debut Tuesday night. Dude is as injury-prone as they come, but he's a stud when healthy. He should be universally owned.

The Nets traded Terrence Williams to the Rockets on Tuesday. Williams and Nets coach Avery Johnson obviously weren't getting along, mainly because Williams had trouble following team rules.  Here's hoping Williams will be able to get his act together now that he's on a new team. He's got an iffy jumper, but there are very few players who have the type of triple-double potential Williams possesses.

The Detroit Pistons are an absolute mess this season. Detroit's already pathetic season hit a new low Saturday night when they allowed the Raptors to erase a 25-point deficit in the second half. Led by Jerryd Bayless, who is a solid fantasy pickup right now, Toronto outscored Detroit 37-17 in the fourth quarter. How Detroit loses on a night Ben Wallace scores 23 points in beyond me. Not only are the Pistons frustrating their fans (like me), but they have also been one of the worst squads from a fantasy perspective. According to Yahoo's rankings, Rodney Stuckey (65) and Charlie Villanueva are the only two Pistons in the top 75 through Monday. Much of that can be attributed to Pistons coach John Kuester's lack of a rotation up to this point of the season. Stuckey (32:51) and Tayshaun Prince (32:21) are the only two Pistons to average over 30 minutes per game this season. Kuester has been hinting at plans to establish a concrete rotation going forward, so hopefully we'll have a better idea of which Pistons will hold value for the remainder of the season soon.

Two movies that I'm dying to see this Holiday season: Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan and the Coen brother's True Grit. I'm a sucker for a good Western and the Coen brothers rarely disappoint.

Time to toot my own horn … Prior to the season, I wrote that Kevin Love would lead the league in rebounding and hit over one three-pointer per game this season. He currently leads the NBA with 15.6 boards per game (3.3 higher than his nearest competitor) and is nailing 1.3 treys per night. Love's turnaround started on Nov. 12 when Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis finally found his sanity and decided to Free Kevin Love. Over that 15-game stretch, the double-double machine has averaged 22.9 points and 17.3 rebounds in over 38 minutes per game. He should be considered a top-10 fantasy player going forward, and that's being modest.

All PS3 owners should be excited about two teaser trailers released this week: Uncharted 3 and Batman: Arkham City.

The Heat extended their win streak to nine games with a victory over the Hornets on Monday. While I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about thinking the Heat would challenge the Bulls' single-season record of 72 wins this season, anyone who wrote off the Heat after their 9-8 start was just as foolish. This team will only get stronger as the season goes on. Fantasy owners looking to jump on the Heat's bandwagon should look in Mike Miller's direction. His return from a preseason thumb injury is less than a month away.
