Training Camp Notes

Melo's still in Denver … for now -- The blockbuster four-team deal that would land Carmelo Anthony in New Jersey has been put on hold. Anthony hasn't shown a willingness to sign an extension with the Nets, and the star small forward continues to push the Nuggets brass to search for other deals. The three teams (New Jersey, Charlotte and Utah) involved with Denver in the four-team swap are all losing their patience while the Nuggets are apparently leveraging for a better deal elsewhere. The Nuggets are scheduled to open camp Monday and will likely want to make a deal sooner rather than later. Keep an eye on the situation this week, as the fantasy value of most of the players involved could change.

Jonny Flynn (hip) still not ready -- Training camp is set to open Monday and Flynn isn't ready to return from his offseason hip surgery yet. Flynn hopes to return at some point in November, but we won't have a more concrete timetable until after his next follow-up appointment on Oct. 18. While Flynn showed promise in his rookie season, his injury and the addition of Luke Ridnour to the Timberwolves' backcourt this offseason make him a risky pick in one-year formats.

Utah inked Earl Watson to a one-year deal -- With the Pacers last season, Watson was able to earn enough playing time to flash some fantasy value on occasion. He'll be backing up Deron Williams in Utah, so barring an injury to the star point guard, we can forget about Watson's days of being a fantasy asset.

Andrew Bynum is the new Mr. Glass -- Bynum is recovering from offseason knee surgery and likely won't be ready until late November at the earliest. The 23-year-old big man is full of potential, but he is consistently battling injuries. Through his first five seasons, Bynum has managed to play in just 278 of a possible 410 games. If he's ever able to stay on the court, he'll be a nightly double-double threat, but until Bynum can shake off the injury bug, he'll be a risky pick on draft day.
