Monday Morning Thoughts

-Week 2 saw many quarterback changes as Vince Young, Jason Campbell, David Garrard and Matt Moore were all benched in favor of their respective backups.  Jeff Fisher has already stated that VY will be back under center next week and he likely gets the biggest pass since he was up against the Steelers defense.

-I'd expect Marshawn Lynch and Vincent Jackson to be traded sooner rather than later.  While this will probably change over the next few weeks, there isn't anyone I'd start in a standard league that is a Buffalo Bill.  Lee Evans has a whopping four catches for 34 yards.  While he got a PI flag in the first half against Green Bay, he was officially given zero targets from Trent Edwards.

-Who is pushing the panic button more right now, Dallas or Minnesota?  I'd guess Minnesota since I can look at Dallas and still see a lot of upside.  I'd be surprised if the Vikings don't make a deal for the aforementioned Jackson by the end of Monday, especially given Percy Harvin's hip injury.

-Better catch yesterday – Randy Moss's TD (please no more "slouch" jokes in the media), Devin Hester's TD or the Champ Bailey interception?  I'd give it to Bailey by a hair.

-Hakeem Nicks and Mike Sims-Walker heart garbage time.

-It was nice to see Donald Brown get in some work last night.  IMO, he's better than Addai but you can't unseat a veteran without ridiculously out-playing him or having an injury come around.

-Roddy White now has 35 targets through two games and without looking at anything, I'd guess he's leading the league.  The game was out of hand in the second half and it's conceivable that we'll be talking about him as a top-4 receiver by the end of the year.

-It's time to start taking notice of Tony Moeaki, who now has eight catches for 79 yards and a touchdown through two games.  He looks like he'll be a legit #2 TE or a serviceable bye-week option.

-I was wary of his injury history heading into this season but Jahvid Best looked terrific yesterday.  Shaun Hill's 335 passing yards is very misleading considering 154 were to Best whose YAC padded Hill's stats.  It is nice to see Hill looking for his biggest weapon in Calvin Johnson in the red zone.

-Putting up the ball for grabs in the end zone to your #1 WR with a huge height advantage in one-on-one coverage is always a good idea (see Matt Schaub to Andre Johnson).   When isn't it a good idea?  When it's fourth and two and you throw a 25-yard fade to 5'9" Deion Branch who's being covered by Champ Bailey.  Again, you only needed two yards for a first down, Matt Hasselbeck.

-Free Kareem Huggins (inactive for Week 2)!  How long do the Bucs stick with Cadillac Williams and his 2.6 YPC?  I actually think there was an Earnest Graham sighting yesterday.  At least the Redskins can justify using Clinton Portis and his 3.1 YPC since Larry "weird negative 10-yard run" Johnson is next in line.

-The Texans defense is very interesting.  First, they are going to be in a lot of high-scoring affairs which doesn't help.  If you look at the D, there are two very different stories being told here.  The front four is solid and through two games they've only given up 62 yards on the ground (2.3 YPC) but 859 yards through the air which suggests the secondary isn't pulling their weight.

-I'm glad the Manning Bowl is over, got a tad overhyped in my opinion.  Is anyone still going to be down and doubt Reggie Wayne?  Despite catching seven ball for 96 yards and a TD (which I thought looked questionable), he could have had a 100-yard game had he not had a rare drop in the first quarter that Manning put right on the money.

-There would be a ton of new Survivor pools sprouting up this week if the Packers somehow lost yesterday.

-Chad Henne hasn't been a fantasy darling even a little so far.  That being said, road games at Buffalo and Minnesota aren't an easy task.  I heard someone on the radio yesterday morning call the Bills defense "horrendous" which is not the truth.  They aren't anything special but I'd imagine it's tough to stay in a game mentally when you can't count on your offense to score any points.  Getting back to Henne, he has two games still against the Jets and other than those games I'd expect a lot of improvement.

-I'm 33 and don't remember Hawaii Five-O so I'm guessing the people that do remember it won't still be up at 10:00 EST to watch it.  I'll give it a few weeks before it's replaced.

-Devin Aromashadu put up a goose egg yesterday and it's become apparent that Johnny Knox is easily the best Bear's receiver to own.

-Jerome Harrison was given a nice opportunity to take the RB job and run with it (no pun intended).  A first half fumble didn't help his cause, yet Mangini did stick with him after it.  He's got potential as long as the Browns get away from Peyton Hillis around the goal line.

-Todd Haley needs to give some time of plausible explanation as to why Jamaal Charles isn't being used.  Charles had offseason shoulder surgery so did the Chiefs promise Thomas Jones a nice workload to lure him to KC rather than sign as a backup on a playoff contender?  I don't get the 22/11 split of carries between the two given that Charles is a home run threat every time and Jones certainly is not.

-Jason Snelling and Mike Tolbert will be heavily targeted on the waiver wire this week.  I'm not sure as that's justified as both of the injuries to Michael Turner and Ryan Mathews aren't thought to be too serious.  Both teams had the game easily in hand and it made no sense to rush either player back onto the field.  Don't blow your FAAB budget on Snelling or Tolbert unless something drastic changes on the status of the starters this week.

-I'll take the 49ers and the 5.5 points tonight over New Orleans.  Look for Michael Crabtree to have a nice bounce-back game for San Fran.  I actually read an article this week suggesting that the New Orleans defense won't be as good as last year.  Really?  You mean taking out Darren Sharper and his nine interceptions and three TDs for at least half the season will affect them?  First those numbers were very fluky to begin with so even if he was healthy it would be ambitious to expect even half those numbers.  Second, they are the reigning Super Bowl which puts a giant target on their backs anyway.
