Oddly Possible Career Milestones

We all know Alex Rodriguez is likely to get to 700 homers sometime in 2013, but there are some other players you might not think of that could join some of the rare clubs like 3,000 hits or 300 wins. Here are a few:

  • Adrian Beltre - 3,000 hits. It's hard to believe he's just 31, but Beltre's having the second best year of his career, and already has amassed 1825 hits. In fact, he won't be 32 until April.
  • Johnny Damon - 3,000 hits. Damon turns 37 in November, but he's already got 2520 hits, i.e., he needs just 480 more. That's a minimum of three seasons, and probably four at his age, but many players play past 40, so he's got a legitimate shot to do it.
  • Ichiro - 3,000 hits. Ichiro turns 37 in October, and he's only got 2162 hits, but he averages over 200 per year, which means he merely had to play through his 40th birthday if he can keep up the pace. If he plays into his early 40s, he's got an excellent chance. And keep in mind he didn't get to the U.S. until he was 29.
  • Andruw Jones - 500 home runs. If Jones, who doesn't turn 34 until April, can hang around as a fringe 4th OF/DH for another several years, he should easily crack this milestone. He's got 402 already.
  • Paul Konerko - 500 home runs. He's got 351 at age 34, and he's not slowing down yet.
  • Adam Dunn - 600 home runs. He's got 340 at age 30. Players with his body type don't always age well, but he's got a chance to be in the top-10 all time when his career is over.
  • Troy Glaus - 500 home runs. He's got 318 at age 33. Health is really the main issue here.
  • Andy Pettitte - 300 wins. He's got 240 at age 38. He'd need about five more full seasons, but crafty lefties can hang around a long time.
  • C.C. Sabathia - 300 wins - he's already half way there (149) at age 29.
