Friday Night Thoughts

Manny's back in Boston. Strasburg's facing the White Sox and Tulo's on the DL. Just another night at the parks.

I'm really happy to see Alexi Ogando pitching for the Rangers. He had a long way to come back from his past legal issues. As I shared with you during spring training, Ogando has a power arm that sets him apart from the average back end of the bullpen guy. He is worthy of a spot on your roster if you have room.

Speaking of the Rangers, Jarrod Satalamacchia is having a tough time making it back to the bigs. His throwing has improved and he's starting to hit, but the club is happy with Max Ramirez and Matt Treanor behind the plate.

The Rangers rotation has been bitten badly by the injury bug. Look for them to be sniffing around for starting pitching with Roy Oswalt being a main target.

I was concerned about Adam Lind during spring training. Then he started the season with a bang. Now? Wow what a dive he's taken. He hasn't even had one good hot streak. I guess my yellow caution light was blinking back in March and I should have listened to myself.

I'm not worried about the 0-12 I have so far from Michael Stanton. Even though I benched Justin Upton for him this week. I had a hunch Upton would come alive the minute I introduced him to the other guys on my bench. And he did. It's not a fatal error. Upton comes back for me next week. Then he can go in the tank again and Stanton can break out. Isn't that how it goes?

Tulo and Cargo are both hurt in the same week for the Rockies. Both injuries require monitoring if you count on those guys. Especially Tulowitzki. We find out now that Tulo has a broken wrist and will be on the DL. Yikes!

I thought the Reds would move a pitcher as the trade deadline approached. Now I'm not so sure. I really can't find many holes on that roster. And like I said a week or so ago, Arthur Rhodes is still flying under the radar. I really like the Reds but I wish it were someone other than Dusty at the wheel.

I'm still convinced Lonnie Chisenhall will be the third baseman of the Indians next season. Say goodbye to Jhonny Peralta.

I like that the Pirates are giving their prospects a chance to face big league pitching and improve against the best players in the game. The club will benefit from the younger guys playing and learning together in the major leagues. They have some very good talent and I like what I see.

Speaking of prospects-keep your eyes on the Royals. They have some pitching in the minor leagues with outstanding potential. Guys like Mike Montgomery, Aaron Crow, Tim Melville and others form a good nucleus for the future. They aren?t all having great years, but they have potential. Then the position players like Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer, and others add even more promise. I think the franchise is about ready to turn the corner---if----if it is managed properly. Contrast that with the Astros farm system. To me the Houston system looks very, very bleak.

Looks like the jury's in. Wouldn?t you say Target Field is a pitcher?s park so far? Maybe things will change when the weather heats up.

I'm even more convinced now. Placido Polanco is a perfect fit for Philly. He's a steady, reliable hitter.

Cliff Lee would make a great addition to the Yankees rotation. But who goes to Seattle in the deal? I have an idea. The Yanks aren?t too deep at any level, but how about moving Jesus Montero in a deal for Lee? Makes sense to me with Francisco Cervelli hanging around the big league roster. If Lee signs an extension with the Yanks first. I think that's really where he wants to pitch.

Before he was traded, Conor Jackson was smacking the ball with some authority for the Diamondbacks. He wasn't getting the results, but the ball was coming off the barrel of the bat with some solid smack. I think he'll do very well in Oakland with those big outfield gaps.

Sam Demel had a scoreless inning for the DBacks in his Arizona debut.

Travis Buck. Remember him? And Jermaine Dye. How quickly it can happen.

No. No. No. I do not trust Pat Burrell. No way. I said it before and I'll say it again. I know, I know. I saw the homers. That doesn't mean I can have him on my team. I'm happy for him. I'm happy for the Giants. There are just certain guys that I just can't.. well, you know what I mean.

Travis Hafner was heating up and then boom..he's a DH in 3 National League Parks. Time to sit down and watch for a few games. Like 9 in a row. He's a pretty expensive pinch hitter for a week and a half.

This coming week my featured prospect is Atlanta's Freddie Freeman on my Minor League Report on Rotowire.com. I invite you to drop by and give it a read. Until then, enjoy start #3 of Stephen Strasburg. He of the size 15 shoes.

Oh, I almost forgot. I'm so sorry I never thought of Big League Chew. I hope you'll forgive me.
