Picks, 5|FRONTS|2|FRONTS|10

Since the early-season dive to -12 units, we've stayed in a fairly narrow band around even par for the year. I thought I'd be using a wider range of units on picks, in the card-counter way of spreading vertically when you have the odds in your favor, but I haven't been finding the spots for bigger bets just yet. We'll see how things go from here, but if you're applying this to a real-world project, just breaking even is a loss because of the time invested. You have to make some money.

Yesterday:

Arizona -111. Dan Haren may be meandering towards my no-fly list, on both sides.

Chicago (AL) +138. Scott Linebrink gets the gas face. I won anyway.

Houston +153. Maybe this isn't Wandy Rodriguez's year.

New York (NL) +195. Mike Pelfrey didn't get much help from his defense in the fourth inning yesterday, and had he, maybe he never locates two balls terribly to Juan Castro and Shane Victorino.

Milwaukee -120. Yovani Gallardo pitched well and Trevor Hoffman didn't pitch poorly.

Today:

Chicago (AL) +185, one unit. If there's a type of pitcher you want to face the Yankees with, it's one who takes walks off the board completely. It helps if he's lefthanded. I'll take a shot with Mark Buehrle at this high a number.

Cleveland +143, one unit. As well as Francisco Liriano has pitched, this is a pretty big number for a road favorite that isn't a great team. Joe Mauer isn't starting.

Tampa Bay -142, two units. Even though it's against Zack Greinke, everything else makes this a very generous number.

Arizona/Chicago (NL) over 10 (-110), one unit. Jackson! Gorzelanny! It's Home Run Derby on WGN!

Colorado +134, one unit. Get used to a lot of Rockies-as-underdog plays. There's a huge gap between the books' perception of this team and my own.
