Gilbert Arenas was sentenced to 30 days in a halfway house and two years' probation, effectively closing the books on the whole sordid affair.

Did Agent Zero get off easy? Depends on your perspective. Carrying an illegal handgun in Washington D.C. can get you five years in prison, and the sentencing guidelines for someone with Arenas' record recommend a max of 24 months. But Arenas' attorneys, citing his humanitarian efforts and the fact that the guns weren't loaded, were able to get him probation.

Theoretically, that means the artist formerly known as Agent Zero will be free and clear of all his legal obligations well before training camp.

Will he still be a member of the Wizards? At this point, that seems likely. While the team could still seek to void Arenas' contract, in the past, arbitrators have ruled that players cannot be punished twice for the same offense. The league-imposed suspension that has sidelined Arenas since January could supercede the team's efforts to get out from under that massive contract.

That means as of November, Arenas could be back in uniform -- and another six months removed from his most recent knee surgery.

Now, Arenas has zero value this season due to his suspension. Which means in leagues where people are paying attention, he's probably sitting on waivers. If you're in a keeper league, he could be worth stashing on your bench for the last couple of weeks, just so you have the option of retaining his services for 2010-11.
