NFL Training Camp Notes

Anquan Boldin will probably miss Friday's preseason game with a right hamstring injury – This after he was already dealing with swelling in his knee. Let me be clear, Boldin is tough, but his durability is a huge question mark nevertheless. Boldin has missed eight games over the past two seasons, and his preseason hasn't exactly instilled confidence in an upcoming 16-game campaign. Take Dwayne Bowe instead.

Carnell Williams, and not Derrick Ward, will get the start in the Buccaneers' next preseason game Thursday – Coach Raheem Morris then revealed this plan for his use of the running back situation: The starting back would play two series, followed by another back taking the next two series, with the third back playing a single series. This looks like a full-blown committee, so Ward has been overvalued in drafts so far.

X-rays taken on Fred Jackson's thumb/wrist were negative – Good news, as there was fear the injury could prove serious, which would have meant Dominic Rhodes starting the first three games of the season. Pairing Jackson with Marshawn Lynch is a pretty solid strategy that often comes at a discount.
