Training Camp Notes

Dante Stallworth is suspended for the entire 2009 season.  I could go on a tirade about how little a "one-year suspension" is for killing someone while driving under the influence.  However, I'll stick to fantasy purposes and point out that outside of deeper fantasy leagues, Stallworth should not have been on your radar even if this tragedy had not occurred.

Testimony began in the Brandon Marshall misdemeanor assault trial in Atlanta.  First, I'm not a lawyer, but the testimony did not sound good for Marshall.  Already battling hip and Cutler separation-anxiety issues, a guilty verdict would elicit a suspension from the NFL.  Remember, he missed the season opener last year due to a similar charge, so strike two should be more severe.  He should continue to slide down your wide receiver board.

Michael Vick signs a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.  I'm trying to figure out what I'm more surprised about: this or T.O. to the Bills.  He'll be suspended for the first six games of the year (despite |STAR|not playing/suspended|STAR| for the last two years), and with a healthy Donovan McNabb it's doubtful he'll have much fantasy relevance.  That being said, Andy Reid will have a field day thinking up gadget plays with both Vick and McNabb in the backfield.

Anthony Gonzalez will miss Friday's preseason game with a mild hamstring strain.  The Colts are just being cautious here.  Remember, he's the new #2 for Peyton Manning and a 1,000+ yard receiving season with 8+ touchdowns is not a stretch.

Tim Hightower has shown improved focus and sharpness during the Cardinals' camp this preseason.  Apparently Tim isn't ready to lay down and let Chris Wells take over the starting running back spot.  This has the making of a timeshare, although Hightower would have more value initially if Wells' ankle injury continues to keep him out of practice.

Tom Brady is listed as the starter for Thursday night's preseason game.  It will be interesting to see how Brady handles a game speed pass rush.  Watch in preseason, if he looks 100|PERCENT|, expect him to vie for the top fantasy quarterback spot.
