Playoff Observations -- Thursday

Just a few things I noticed Thursday night:

  • John Madden retired -- can Don Cherry be next? Better yet, CBC's Al Strachan. Take him... PLEASE.
  • Mike Komisarek demonstrated his manliness by resorting to the preschool approach of finger poking in the eye of Matt Hunwick. C'mon Mikey, use your words. Big boys don't scratch each others' eyes out. Chicks in a cage match do that. You can surely do better.
  • When did Martin Havlat grow onions AND brains... and use them both at the same time. I am thoroughly impressed.
  • Call it a California miracle -- the Ducks got through a penalty-free period of hockey for the first time this month. Yes, this month.
  • Best highlight of the night was 39 years old -- Bobby Orr's goal in his fourth straight (a record) delivers the Cup. Ahhh, there will never be another.
  • Who was that Swedish blanket draped on Rick Nash? Not Niklas Lidstrom; it's Jonathan Ericsson. Superlatives apply. Get him now. He's the second coming.
  • Separated at birth? Adam Burish and Sean Avery. Two cheeks split by the same crack. But at least Burish knows when to stop before he drops his drawers -- and his dignity.
  • Do the Red Wings remind you of that old cartoon where the big guy picks up the little guy by the collar and dangles him while the little guy tries to punch, smack or swat the bigger guy?Columbus is just happy to be there. Too bad.
