Pacquiao|FRONTS|Hatton 24|FRONTS|7

Just caught the first installment on HBO tonight, and it makes me want to watch the fight. Hatton was undefeated before getting knocked out by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. 16 months ago, and now he's going after the new "pound-for-pound" king, Pacquiao.

What's interesting is that Hatton fired his long time trainer and hired none other than Floyd Mayweather, Sr. - who's not on speaking terms with his son. So Floyd Sr., who comes off as a cocky buffoon, is replacing Hatton's dedicated trainer and close friend, who's devastated that Hatton fired him. And while Floyd, Sr. acts like an idiot, he apparently knows what he's doing as a trainer, working on Hatton's hand speed and defense, two traits that made his son the best pound for pound fighter on the planet.

I still think Pacquiao's going to take him out, but Hatton's getting a different type of training - more boxing to go along with his brawling style. If Hatton does win, or even put up a good fight, it sets up a lot more possibilities in the division as the Juan Diaz-Juan Manuel Marquez fight was an all out war, and either one could hang with these two - in fact Marquez fought Pacquaio twice, drawing one, and both were close. And if Mayweather, Jr. were to get back in the game, he could fight the winner of this match. If it were Hatton, then he'd be fighting against a guy trained by his dad.

The only thing that sucks is the pay-per-view aspect - big-time boxing should be on a major network in prime time like the World Series or Super Bowl.
