The Downside to Having Andrea Bargnani as Your Center: Part III

Over on Bulls.com, Sam Smith brings up an excellent point about the new-look Raptors:

If any team is devising a strategy to run out your best player, it has to be the Toronto Raptors, who now have Chris Bosh playing the biggest and strongest guys with Jermaine O'Neal traded. So this week Bosh was abused by Al Horford's 21 points and 22 rebounds and got knocked around by Brandon Bass Sunday night as the Raptors fell 15 below .500 in the season's major disappointment.

So first off, add Horford and Bass to the list Chris has been compiling of big men having big nights against Toronto.

The more interesting point -- from a long-term perspective -- is this:

The Raptors acquired Jermaine O'Neal so that Chris Bosh wouldn't have to bang with the opposition's power guys. The O'Neal trade puts Bosh in the position of having to play physical down low every night. Everyone knows he doesn't want to be matched up against centers... after all, as Shaq put it, Bosh is the "Ru Paul of big men."

Maybe the Raptors have simply given up on the possibility of re-signing Bosh when his contract expires. It'll be interesting to see if they try to move him this summer.
