Thursday's Training Camp Notes: Benny Has Some Jets

Notes from Thursday:

- Thursday marked the last game for many teams and therefore many starters didn't suit up. Don't be alarmed if one of your starters wasn't in the box score.

- Cody Lattimer and Jacob Tamme are expected to see time in the slot should Wes Welker (concussion) miss any time. We've seen Peyton Manning make a household name out of Tamme in the past while Latimer is the more talented of the two. It may take a few games for Latimer to earn Peyton's trust and Tamme is worth a look in two-tight end leagues should Welker miss any time.

- Josh Gordon is not eligible to play in the CFL this season. Due to Gordon still being under contract by the Browns, he cannot play in the CFL. His legal team continues to look into ways to get Gordon on the field sooner than later. Andrew Hawkins picked up the start opposite Miles Austin Thursday night and will likely take Gordon's place in the lineup this season. Hawkins will end up the top wide receiving option for Brian Hoyer once Austin suffers another hamstring injury.

- It appears Jarrett Boykin has locked down the No. 3 wide receiver spot for the Packers. Coach Mike McCarthy has expressed his pleasure with the way Boykin has played and it appears Devante Adams is still learning the ropes of playing in the NFL. Boykin is in a similar role that Randall Cobb had a couple of seasons ago and has a similar skill set.

- Matt Schaub (elbow) did some light throwing Wednesday and will throw again Monday. Rookie Derek Carr started in place of him Thursday night and could be in line to be the first rookie to start under center this season. Schaub hasn't played terribly well during the preseason (or last season for that matter) and the lingering injury could force Carr into action sooner than the Raiders wanted. Check out the reports on Schaub after he throws Monday to see who will be the Week 1 starter.

- Sammy Watkins injured his ribs and did not return to Thursday night's game. He had suffered what was labeled "bruised ribs" against the Steelers and it's unknown right now if this is related. Look for there to be more information on his injury sometime in the afternoon on Friday.   Sammy Watkins

- There's a report that Benny Cunningham is pushing Zac Stacy for playing time. I recently pushed Cunningham up in my top-200 after it was clear he was second in line and ahead of Tre Mason on the depth chart. Cunningham amassed 181 rushing yards on only 20 carries over a two-game span last season showing his upside. Stacy averaged only 3.9 YPC last season and a timeshare could be developing here.
