Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Omer Faruk Yurtseven was born on June 19, 1998 in Istanbul, Turkey. Yurtseven began playing competitive basketball at a young age, competing for the Turkish national team in the 2013 and 2014 FIBA Europe U16 Championship. He was also a silver medalist for Turkey in the 2015 FIBA Europe U18 Championship. In 2016, Yurtseven competed in the FIBA Europe U20 Championship, winning a bronze medal and making the All-Tournament team. In 2015, Yurtseven made his EuroLeague debut for Fenerbahce, and later that year he participated in an NBA preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets. At age 17, Yurtseven became the youngest player to participate in an NBA preseason contest. Yurseven committed to play collegiately at North Carolina State, but due to his previous professional status, he had to sit out the first nine games of the season, as well as donate $1,000 to charity. Yurtseven made his college basketball debut on December 15, 2016 in an NC State victory over Appalachian State. He went on to appear in 22 games, making 14 starts and averaging 5.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in 18.9 minutes. As a sophomore, Yurtseven appeared in 33 games, posting 13.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. Yurtseven earned All-ACC Third Team honors and opted to test the waters in advance of the 2018 NBA Draft. Ultimately, Yurtseven decided to return to college basketball, but he announced that he would transfer to Georgetown. After sitting out the entirety of the 2018-19 season, Yurtseven started 25 of 26 games for the Hoyas, posting 15.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.5 blocks in 27.3 minutes per contest.
Productive in season finale Sunday
CUtah Jazz
April 14, 2024
Yurtseven supplied 11 points (5-12 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 18 rebounds and two assists over 30 minutes during Sunday's 123-116 loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS Yurtseven spent most of the season as the third-string center behind John Collins (back) and Walker Kessler (nose), but since both were ruled out for the season finale, Yurtseven stepped into a starting role and looked quite good, posting a double-double and making his presence felt on the glass. Yurtseven started Utah's final six games of the campaign, scoring in double digits four times and posting two double-doubles in that span.

ANALYSIS The 24-year-old center played only nine games this past season and had trouble staying healthy, but he played double-digit minutes for the Heat only three times even when he was in the lineup. Yurtseven could have trouble carving out a significant role if he returns to Miami, but it is possible the team promises him the No. 2 spot at center behind Bam Adebayo if they don't re-sign a veteran option like Cody Zeller.
Yurtseven is coming into his second year with the potential to receive much more playing time than he did last season. The Heat have virtually the same roster as last season, except for the departure of P.J. Tucker. Tucker was the starting power forward and averaged 28 minutes per game. This leaves the Heat with only three true big men on the roster in Bam Adebayo, Dewayne Dedmon and Yurtseven. Yurtseven could possibly see himself starting next to Adebayo at center, or at least having extended run off the bench. While the rookie only averaged 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds last season, he saw just 12.6 minutes per game. In the 12 games Yurtseven started due to Adebayo's thumb injury, he averaged 12.1 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks in 29.2 minutes. While being a double-double machine, he still shot 50.8 percent from the field and 61.5 percent on free throws during his starts, which were very similar to his season averages (52.6 percent on field goals and 62.3 percent on free throws). If he can improve his outside shooting, this would allow him to start next to Adebayo. However, even if he remains as a bench option, Yurtseven would still be a viable deep league flier at center who can be productive in his minutes and out-produce his draft position if any injury happens above him on the depth chart like last season.
