Metu returned to San Antonio for the 2019-20 season, his second in the Association. As occurred during his rookie season, the second round pick from the 2018 draft split his time between San Antonio and the G League Austin Spurs. Metu made his season debut with San Antonio on Nov. 1 and played four minutes in the Spurs' 127-110 win over the Warriors. On Nov. 9 against Boston, the second-year center recorded seven points and a career-high eight rebounds in nine minutes of play. He played three successive games from Dec. 19 through Dec. 23, generating eight total points and five rebounds in 13 minutes of play. Metu saw a double digit minute workload for the first time on Jan. 27, scoring four points and grabbing three rebounds over 11 minutes in the Spurs' close loss to the Bulls. On Feb. 23, the young big man scored a career-high eight points, to go with three boards, in eight minutes of run during a loss at Oklahoma City. Metu played in 25 G League contests for the Austin Spurs. While with Austin, he averaged 17.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, 1.4 steals and 0.9 three-pointers in 29.1 minutes per G League contest. On Mar.3 with Austin, Mezu tallied 36 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, three made treys, two blocks and steal during a loss to the Texas Legends.2018
Metu was selected in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft by the Spurs. He played in 29 NBA games as a rookie, averaging five minutes per contest. The USC product posted per-game averages of 1.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in limited playing time. He tallied a career-high 10 points in 13 minutes against Utah on Dec. 4. Metu also spent time with the Austin Spurs of the G League during the campaign. He played 26 games with Austin, 19 as a starter. In the G League, Metu averaged 14.0 points per contest while shooting 49.0 percent from the field. He also grabbed 7.4 rebounds per game and dished out 2.3 assists per contest. On the defensive end, Metu swatted 1.3 shots per game. He displayed his vast potential with a 23-point, 14-rebound performance for Austin on Jan. 10.
