2023 Fantasy Outlook
Barriera, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound prep southpaw from Florida, has an impressive blend of athleticism and stuff. His left-handed delivery is very smooth, which gives evaluators confidence he will be a strike thrower in pro ball. He has a mid-90s fastball that has touched 99 mph and a monster slider that is one of the best breaking balls any teenager possesses. Barriera also mixes in a curveball and changeup that are in development. There's not much to complain about other than his distant ETA (he turns 19 in March). Barriera shut himself down in the spring after pitching well enough to secure a spot in the first round, and Toronto gave him $3.6 million after selecting him with the 23rd overall pick. He will make his pro debut in 2023 and has significant breakout potential.
