MEssendon Bombers
August 1, 2021
Merrett captured 35 disposals, seven marks, five tackles, four goal assists and a pair of goals Sunday as Essendon fell to Sydney 109-102 at MCG.
ANALYSIS
Season-highs in marks and goals and a career-best four goal assists highlighted a Round 20 performance that left Merrett the lone member of Essendon's roster to eclipse 100 fantasy points versus Sydney. The 25 year-old's 112.8 points per showing this year currently ranks sixth-best among all AFL midfielders and finds Merrett now one of only 15 players at his position with with 2000+ total points to his name.
Game-high 35 disposals in victory
MEssendon Bombers
July 9, 2021
Merrett accounted for 35 disposals, five clearances, four marks, three tackles and a single goal assist Friday as Essendon defeated Adelaide 84-21 at Marvel Stadium.
ANALYSIS
Merrett recorded 30+ disposals for the sixth time in seven appearances, collected a minimum of four marks for a seventh consecutive and registered a goal assist for just the second time since May 29 in Friday's rout of Adelaide. The 25 year-old midfielder continues to impress as the AFL's leader in total fantasy score heading into mid-July, topping 112 points in all but one game since a Round 10 win over North Melbourne, and setting new season-highs three times over that span of time. The fact that Merrett currently ranks third in total inside 50s (101) and total disposals (512), eighth in total handballs (243) and 12th in total goal assists (15) certainly only helps his cause.
Big effort in loss
MEssendon Bombers
July 2, 2021
Merrett scored one goal to go with 36 disposals (21 kicks, 15 handballs) in addition to recording five marks and completing seven tackles during Friday's 98-57 loss to Geelong in Round 16.
ANALYSIS
Merrett and Darcy Parish have put up some ridiculous performances in recent weeks and especially since the mid-June bye. In the case of Merrett, he's logged over 30 disposals in five of the last six rounds and should remain a major fantasy target even if the Bombers are unable to win consistently.
Starring performance in loss
MEssendon Bombers
June 26, 2021
Merrett recorded one behind to go with 41 disposals (23 kicks, 18 handballs), five marks made and eight completed tackles from Saturday's 68-57 loss to Melbourne in Round 15.
ANALYSIS
Merrett was only four disposals away from breaking Darcy Parish's club record for most disposals in a game, but settling for over 40 still gives him over 150 points on the night. Without Andrew McGrath around, it's important that Merrett continues to perform at a high level in order to maintain his payoff for a high-priced midfielder and to help the Bombers make the finals.
